ebayfan 07-14-2009, 08:31 PM Could be in regards to anything, maybe he was selling his ass or maybe he smacked the wife around. There was no amount disclosed for bond and he was released the same day so it may not even be related to his involvement in FTA.
I had many conversations via msn several years ago with this guy and besides being a spokesman and dealer he had no personal ties to the actual coders his sole motive was to move equipment and act as a spokesperson for mainly Pansat but he goes back to DTV days. We used to butt heads quuite often back in the day.
If anyone mangages to find out exactly what they have on him I would sure like to know
because this could definately affect others in the community.
amt0808 07-14-2009, 08:43 PM He' been charged with "conspiracy to violate the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitch Demblin". It made the news.
WebWizard 07-14-2009, 08:48 PM I think it has nothing to do with spouse abuse but the other 5 or 6 threads that names him as being one of the people indicted on viewtec bust

SAN DIEGO - A North County resident and two Florida men were indicted for allegedly trying to hack new encryption codes used by the DISH Network satellite television service, it was announced Monday.
Jung Kwak of Oceanside, along with Phillip Allison, 35, and Robert Ward, 54 -- both of Seminole, Fla. -- are charged with conspiracy to violate the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitch Demblin.
The 33-year-old Kwak is the owner of Viewtech Inc. of Oceanside, which imports free-to-air satellite receiver boxes and sells them to the public through retailers.
Though free satellite programming is limited, the boxes marketed under the "Viewsat" name are popular because owners can download code to mimic DISH Network smart cards, allowing free viewing of the service's channels, Demblin said.
However, in late 2007 and 2008, DISH Network sent subscribers smart cards with a new encryption code, which meant owners of Viewsat boxes would no longer receive free programming, Demblin said.
The prosecutor alleged that in March 2008, the defendants decided to hire computer hackers to determine the new encryption code in order to save the market for their boxes.
Kwak bought a special microscope to analyze the smart cards and paid $20,000 cash for photographs of a purported new smart card, Demblin alleged.
Kwak also allegedly offered $250,000 to obtain the memory of such a card, he said.
The prosecutor did not divulge whether the defendants made any progress.
Demblin has filed a motion to hold Kwak without bail. A hearing is scheduled Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge William McCurine Jr.

Verry good read. Thank you for the documents.
Gives dates and shows there progress from March last year until April 5th this year.
Shows the date they received the photos of the inside of the cards.
It looks like from the time they bought the micriscope to dissasemble the cards they were being watched from than on with exact dates.
Any dates prior to that $8500 purchase were aproximate dates like from facts gotten durring an interigation.
From April 5th to July 9th They had the dump and no clue they were being watched.
So maybe they were making progress durring that time.
You can bet someone will be selling that dump now to help pay legal fees.
djpizzle 07-14-2009, 09:57 PM well kwak allison and ward are all named in the documents, and thers a fourth person they are referring to as the "third party"

After reading the Indictment docs, I would assume (or guess in this case really), that the Third Party they mention is referring to the coders?
Mr_Sing 07-14-2009, 10:48 PM Is there a fund for TDG's defense people can contribute to?
richiemiami 07-14-2009, 11:00 PM personally I don't think having TDG's info up there is fair to him as a fellow tester. If it happened to you I don't think you would want that info around. I don't think it's important that a lot of people thought of him badly it's just not right.
He's a fellow tester

This is a good idea. I would be willing to help. Like it or not, we are all part of a fraternity and should be willing to band together to help someone in need to keep our hobby alive.
rchammer 07-14-2009, 11:19 PM thnx for the info, for the 5th or 6th time in 3 days.
Are we just gonna continue to re-post this all summer, or??
And I think we can remove his picture too (attachment). We are not are not the A-Team or something. No need to post 'most wanted' pics.
richiemiami 07-14-2009, 11:25 PM from past experience anyone having legal issue involving Viewtech
Viewsat picks up the bill and makes sure every one is properly represented
and besides it's a tax right off

I highly doubt it and would be stupid to do so as well since you would be red flagging yourself. His business assets are probably either frozen or seized at the moment and he is under the microscope so if he suddenly starts flashing a big wad of cash around that people sent him (and he would) then the feds gonna start looking deeper into that as well.
As for his info being posted it might not seem right but it is part of a public document

After reading this, I would guess that the "third party" is really a government/Nagravision informant who is not being named so that he can continue to inform or protect him from harm.

yep I know what ya mean man! I have no idea how many threads are loaded up with this stuff right now and every site is the same as well
does make for some interesting reading though LOL got it's good points though, not near as much whining and griping about boxes being down hehehe
but it is the same old story all over again. loose lips sink ships and I can't speak about Kwak because I have never seen him post anywhere but the other two were in the game a long time and you would think they should have learned how to keep their mouths shut over the years
Tealhawke 07-15-2009, 12:35 AM It comes down to this: It's been one week, soon it will be two. Since someone said it would be two weeks, the VS owner has been indicted and served.
As a still-loyal-but-fading Viewsat owner and fan, I would say Cyphris needs to address this quickly. Most of us aren't going to wait all summer when there are other options available that will take us away from the VS world.
pervous 07-15-2009, 12:45 AM I think the cats have there tungs right now....lol

no doubt what a total disrespect how bout for all the people that post his picture you must be required to post your picture with a copy of a bill so everyone will know where you live as well come on just because you can find it doesnt mean you have to post it if you have been involved in the fta community or read about this or watch the news then you already know what he looks like SHOW SOME RESPECT
Fencer 07-15-2009, 07:39 AM Is Jung Kwak the "owner" of Viewsat or just the importer? There is a huge difference....
tasos007 07-15-2009, 08:55 AM i think vs owners to act fast because is gone be to late for vs
