Car slams into home, killing two
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two people were killed in what police are calling a horrible accident in southeast Houston this morning.
It happened around 11am in a subdivision behind Almeda Mall. According to police, a 49-year-old man who had just gotten his driver's license plowed into the garage of the home, pinning his wife, his mother-in-law, and a 6-year-old nephew.
"He was pulling into the driveway. The passenger in the car told him to go ahead and put on his brake," said Jodi Silva with the Houston Police Department. "At that time, he got the brake and the accelerator confused and he drove into the garage."
The man who lives in the home, a Houston police officer, came out and performed CPR on the women, but both died from their injuries.
The child who was also pinned by the car suffered non life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he's listed as stable.
The driver of the car is being interviewed by police. We're told the passenger in the car with him was his father-in-law.
Eyewitness News reporter Cynthia Cisneros is on the scene gathering more details. We'll post those details here as we get them. And she'll report live on Eyewitness News later today.
