Sling Technology to be Licensed
The company that owns the Slingbox is planning to license the Sling place-shifting technology to third parties, including television manufacturers and set-top box providers, Cable Digital News reported.
E*hostar, which purchased Sling Media in 2007, is negotiating with various cable and technology companies, the site said. Until now, the Sling technology has only appeared on Sling- and E*hostar-branded boxes.
The move was announced at the American Cable Association's Independent Show, in Grapevine, Texas.
