First-Time Lotto Player Wins $5 Million
(Nov. 2) - A 40-year-old mom who had never played the lottery before is now a millionaire, the New York Post reported Monday.
Mi Hyun Moon walked into a deli in New York's Queens borough on Sept. 14 to get $5 in change so she could catch a bus ride home. But in order to do so, she had to buy something. On a whim, Moon bought a Lotto ticket, and now she's the winner of a $5 million jackpot.
Moon, who's a native of Korea, had lived in Queens for 20 years before moving to Pennsylvania. She was in town visiting friends when she purchased the winning ticket.
"I come back to Queens to visit with family and friends about once a month or so. This is one visit I will never forget!" she told the Post.
According to the paper, she will take home a $2,839,929 lump sum payout, which will be cut to $1,869,263 after taxes.
