View Full Version : Viewsat Xtreme Now Discontinued?
tracey2234 11-07-2007, 05:02 AM Here is another C/P from "Cyphris"
---------------------------------C/P----------------------------
The Viewsat Xtreme has been a great receiver. While having its issues at the beginning it has progressed to be one of Viewsats top models. As technology changes more advanced units arrive such as those with USB loading. To this end the Viewsat Xtreme has been discontinued. As of early this week the warehouse no longer has them in stock. The last supplies are at your local dealer.
Remember the Viewsat coders will keep supporting this great receiver till the day where its hardware can’t keep up. Till then, you can expect the same great support on the VS Xtreme.

Costas 11-07-2007, 06:04 AM Nice to know that......I have one, and it's a great receiver!! Hopefully the support continues for a while longer!

I love my extreme. Personaly I think it is a better STB than my Ultra. It has hardly any bugs and is smooth to use. Only down fall is no usb loading, no big deal for me as I have a notebook.
kingmo 11-08-2007, 01:24 AM good 4 u bro
dmantom 11-08-2007, 09:34 AM We used to have an old black and white tv... it was great and we watched it every night. coloured tv's came out and no one wanted b&w anymore. You couldn't even get them fixed because no one knew how to do it.How many people are still using Windows 3.1? Viewsat products are great and like the pansat 2500 has been surpassed by improved technology. I guess the point here is that nothing lasts forever. You received your money's worth. Time to move on.
Grandpooba 11-08-2007, 09:50 AM I agree w/tracy2234, that the Xtream is a better STB than the Ultra. It is a good stable STB.
The people using Windows 3.1 are probably better off, than me using Vista! I should upgrade to 3.1!
WHAT, colored TV? When did that happen?

At the turn of the century :)
Grandpooba 11-08-2007, 09:59 AM Now I don't feel to bad, as it has been only 7 years.
superbrad 11-10-2007, 12:32 AM Electronically speaking the Ultra i an extreme with USB port and upgraded GUI..... essentially the guts are the same.... As far as the support issue goes it is in Viewsats interest to keep up support for older models..... who would want to buy from a company that discontinues support for their models too quickly..... support for th eextreme will be around for quite a while....
pornking 11-10-2007, 01:03 AM imup and running again
caguenstar 12-08-2007, 12:35 AM estoy trist ede saber eso !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish Coolsat felt the same way about my 6000. Its been a great STB but I got my moneys worth and its time for the jump to HD anyway.

da man 12-24-2007, 09:48 PM sorry to start another thread on this subject, but can anyone confirm viewsat is losing support and also being discontinued. If so why would they want to do away with viewsat it is a popular reciever and money maker just curious.also anything on freeze fix for viewsat
MidNightWatcher 12-24-2007, 10:25 PM Viewsat has stopped manufacturing the Xtreme but will continue to support it with new bins. Its an old receiver and they have plenty of other models still available.

gerryincanada 12-31-2007, 02:14 AM First of all, I hope support remains for a long time for the VSX.
Second, Dmantom, man you're really dating yourself with the black and white TV comment. Hehe.
Suddenly I don't feel so alone anymore.

alreyna,
I don't think phasing out the extreme will mean its support will stop like the pansat 300,1000,1500,2500 did, Those recievers simply just don't have what it takes in the memory department and are simply outdated. The 2500 still works converted but only as a backup & testing for jtagging as it has a tough time opening up when it first boots. The Extreme just basicly went to the wayside because of USB introduction. Usb is the way of the future you will see a lot of boxes drop from production but they will still be supported. Don't confuse this with pansat stopping support with 1 meg of ram and a marginal processor its simply a waste of time for them and people certaily got thier moneys worth out of those recievers. Like windows 3.1 & 95 do you want it? Nothing is compatable with them but they still work and BTW Unsupported:eek:
its not a tactic. its pointless for them to continue producing that model. if they wanted money they could discontinue everything else.
luqman255 12-31-2007, 05:28 PM why didn't the viewsat xtreme 2000 files come as yet even though files for other recivers did come
shockazulu1 01-01-2008, 03:24 AM its not a tactic. its pointless for them to continue producing that model. if they wanted money they could discontinue everything else.
I am still upset that Al7b*r will not even alow posting 2500 to 2700 conversion files I mean why is this such a big deal.
Also they are mad at Captiveworks and removed all discussions they only have CW files because, they sold abunch if there recievers and feel they should support there customers.
sanderson 01-01-2008, 04:30 AM I have bothe a viewsat and a SV not to worry as I prefer the lower price SV over my VS anyways
