LG has set the price for its BH100 combination Blu-ray and HD DVD player at $1,199. Available in the first quarter of this year, the company thinks it can resolve buyer confusion and push both high-def formats using Broadcom's chipset. 1080p and DTS-HD audio support are present and accounted for, but no word yet on other features, like 1080p24 or HDMI 1.3, but for more information check our live coverage of LG's press event and demonstration.

The player is already available at BestBuy.

In my opinion this is ridiculous that we even have to have a dual format player let alone pay $1,199 for it. Hopefully one of the formats will die off soon so we have a sure winner and don't have to be confused anymore in terms of next gen HD formats.

When I first heard about this product I knew it would cost alot but even I didnt expect it to be $1200. I only plan on supporting Blu-ray so maybe in the future we will get lucky and only have 1 next gen format.

The problem with this product is that it doesn't full support all of HD-DVD's features. So it won't run U-Control or have any of the sweet menus. I have an HD-DVD drive for my 360 and its awesome. The movies out for HD-DVD seem to be better right now, porn industry sided with HD-DVD so Blu-Ray is done. Which format do you guys want to win? I'm an HD-DVD guy.

Quite alot of HDDVD movies have been uploaded to usenet the last few days with an average size of 17-22 gigs. Guess its time to buy some bigger HDD's.
