the n3 cards are available and one would think that a switch by dn is imminent, just a matter of when, b3v has begun the process.

Everytime an ecm comes down it COULD be the end of fta as we know it, but alas the coders come through and break it.

According to Charlie, the N3 card will be implemented by 2010 at the latest. You can verify this by reading direct news from D!SH. It was also mentioned in one of their quarterly or annual reports.

As for decrypting, I am willing to bet that coders are already playing around with N3 since there are Euro providers with this encryption.

If N3 is implemented, I doubt it will be long before the fixes are out. Maybe 2 weeks...tops.

have a feeling - just a hunch - that FTA vendors will recycle units on everyone in this N2 to N3 ... call it "requirements for N3" whether its true or not... even though... DN and BV will not swap out recvrs on their side... or - who knows... it will all be HDTV by then anyways...

My two cents - While DN does have receivers working off Cards, not all of them are. The 311 & 322 (Dual Tuner) is a cardless tuner that receives it's programing through the signal. This being said, the 311 & 322 are pretty much identical in it's electronics component to that of a FTA receiver. The glaring difference in these is the power supply. While most FTA Receiver average 500mha (the fortect puts out 600mha), the memory on those receivers and processor speeds are almost the same with the current FTA STB's. What is the point to this? That maybe, just maybe, the current equipment will be able to handle the new encryption, but hacking that is another subject.

Again, this is just an observation without going into detail. Is N3 gonna happen? That is a strong possibility! Will DN have to upgrade their 311 & 322 receivers? I really don't see that happening because they have too many in service right now and would requirea lot of money to do so. BUT, that is a question of "Dollars & Cents".

They have card slots, but are not in use. When they went from N1 to N2 everyone said it would be a card swap. Actually, it was even said by DN! But for those receiver the only thing they did was a software upgrade.

my point is not that FTA boxes can not handle it, but that the suppliers of FTA will want everyone to think they can not do it... and they will not pay or support any software on the old ones either.. so its not a Cant... its a Wont !

if it is being used in europe and cracked-why would they want to use something that is already bad-unless they do not have something else to use and need to show stock holders they have something new and hope they do not know it is aready bad??????????????

I was reading some place that is not the same exact card as in Europe. This would explain why they are going through with the swap. I can bet there is a a deal in place also that B=V tries it first, just to see what happens with it, If all goes well Dik will go with it also.

In Europe they are running Nagra 3 the only thing is Internet and card sharing is the only thing hack as I can see when I visit there on some of there forums. We need a EMU based hack that is not depended on a card or a internet connection.

As most of us have known for awhile, the providers are gearing up for another card swap. Interesting times ahead for this community. This is when experimentation and testing become fun again....

I post the supporting Documents outlining the preliminary details. As for the 4100's they are shipping them with upgraded embedded smart cards. Description This year Bell ExpressVu will be upgrading select receivers with a new version of the Conditional Access (CA) SmartCard.
Store Impacts:

ExpressVu would like stores to focus on selling rather than swapping cards. Therefore, all swapping will be done either at the supply chain end of the business or at the client level.
Store inventory of receivers with the current card/software will continue to function for several months so stores can continue to sell these. Once these receivers are activated on a client account ExpressVu will send out a new card along with instructions on how to activate their replacement card. Client will be given the option of self activation via the web or by calling the activation centre.

Important

Stores should begin to exercise ‘first in, first out’ inventory practices so that as they receive new shipments of receivers with the new CA they will put these aside and sell their current inventory first. This will make the swap faster and more efficient for the client and retailer.

In order to assist retailers in identifying which units have the new CA, ExpressVu will ship these out with a sticker affixed in proximity to the serial number / UPC label. This sticker will be orange in colour and bear the ‘iTV’ logo as seen below:

A thing to remember is that some FTA receivers also have smart card slots which can be used the same as the provider cards.
It would require same chip and emulation.

The providers probably are only going to be happy a short time. :yes:

Most of the slots are not active in the fta boxes except for a few. They could be used in some way if the primary bin tells box to load from card slot. N3 is being worked on by the coders and alot has been figured out/cracked. Bev is doing the card swap now and DN will probly follow not long after if its a sucess. ECM's and card swaps cost money and cause problems with subscribers as well, They can't afford a card swap every few months:). We will just have to wait and see, but N3 does not look like a huge challenge and we should not be down long on at least some forms of fta. hail coders

Why so pessimistic? Everything`s possible.

Until they start from scratch again the coders WILL get it done, it's just a matter of time. Charlie and beverly are the end of the line, they don't have the marketshare to afford being cutting edge so coders in the west have alot of the hard work done for them before the new systems go online such as new cards/encryption overseas. So fear not people, it is not the end of the road. It would be nice if the stb companies could figure out some sort of way to link up to a pc/laptop for some extra hardware and memory power to run a emulator.

i think n3 is already in the stream, look at lyngsat chart it is n2 and n3. i know n3 is already cracked but it has lot of security issues which will make pirates life difficult, they will need a file fix every day or maybe every 6 hours.
