I was hearing rumors of a usb network adapter for viewsat models that would allow internet updates thru the usb like a nova nfusion's network connection. Is there any truth to this rumor?

I am not sure about excatly how true it is, but I do remeber when the Ultra's first came out, TDG boasted the posibility of wifi through USB for abit, then it was never really brought up again......

I still see the possibility of IKS adapters for any FTA via serial. Doesn't neccesarily have to be USB. Just like the Neosat serial network IKS adapter that basically turns the neosat 2000 pro into an Ipro. When you're only grabbing IKS keys it doesn't take much bandwidth so it seems that the serial bus would work.

it would give VS the edge if they were able to just make a adapter to convert to IKS on their older boxes. Seems plenty possible with usb or serial since old 56k modems used to use com based communication and that would be eough bandwidth for key downloading and bin updates. Go VS lets see what u guys can do:)

that would be sweet and the the vs boxes would gain back their value ever since the thanksgiving week and xmas all boxes were down except the nfusion i have cs5000, vs pro and ultra and nova nfusion only that was up 99 percent of the time i tried selling my other boxes but no luck after that but if what we are talking about happens hopefully that would be sweet keep up the good work guyz and thanks to the coders if it wasnt for them i and you wouldnt be here

there is software that updates they keys of a 2500 clone thru the net
by serial port
but you have to jtag new file because of mod to serial port

so it can be done if they wanted to
maybe they will just come up with another model that does that
its better for them

I've heard a rumour about a new VS model ... c/p from a post from another site ...

"TDG mentioned the following "BEV is wasting their time and money. The ViewsatEthernet-2000 will be in stores this May. Card sharing (IKS) will be up on Nagra3. A secure internet control word uplink center is already in place in North Korea - which can't be touched by Echo*. More details as I get them."

Comments I've read on this post include speculation that Nagra3 support won't be available for our current models, VS will turn to this new model, and so will customers if they want FTA after the cardswap.

As I said, rumour and speculation ... but I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on this, or if anyone has also heard it.

Not all boxes have USB, but most all have serial. Except for sub boxes, I have never seen an FTA box without a serial port.

The nice thing about that is that you could also use the serial port to hook the STB to a computer and do the IKS that way or alternatively use emunation. Viewsat is usually very good about supporting their boxes, but most of the time, emunation is out with a fix first. It would be nice to be able to hook up the serial port whenever there is temporary down time with viewsat.

On the other hand, there are a lot of lesser supported boxes out there that would do very nicely if they supported IKS or emunation through the serial port.

there is a program key updater 8.2 or whatever the current version--you install on a computer connected to the receiver, and it is supposed to update the keys after looking them up on several sites--but it doesn't work for me--although i spent some hours trying to get it to work and I understand other people were able to get it to work. I believe there are similar programs out there, but they are kind of hard to rustle up on google.
