Some Teens Also Believe Mountain Dew Will Stop Pregnancy



ORLANDO, Fla. -- Florida teens who believe drinking a cap of bleach will prevent HIV and a shot of Mountain Dew will stop pregnancy have prompted lawmakers to push for an overhaul of sex education in the state.



Another myth is that Florida teens also believe that smoking marijuana will prevent a person from getting pregnant, Local 6 reported.

State lawmakers said the myths are spreading because of Florida's abstinence-only sex education, Local 6 reported.

They are proposing a bill that would require a more comprehensive approach, the report said.

It would still require teaching abstinence but students would also learn about condoms and other methods of birth control and disease prevention.

The bill just passed its first vote in a committee, Local 6 reported.

so sad.....but sadly ive heard these stupid rumors up north also, not that i beleive them.

it is truly astonishing. sounds like the wrong people are talking about sex ed.

isn't that supposed to be the parent's job??

You are not going to stop teens from having sex so teaching them abstinence is a futile effort (no doubt the idea of some right wing religious organization ie The Republican Party)
Teach them that abstinence is an OPTION but so is having safe sex. Condoms, birth control and more should also be taught.

and just because you teach kids about sex does not mean that they are going to go out and have it.

We had sex ed as early as grade 7 where i'm from but i didn't lose my virginity until i was 17.

This is shocking, but still not as bad as they have it in Africa where they believe that if you have sex with a virgin, it will get rid of your AIDS...

this has to be the dumbest education system ever. When u have kids thinking mountain dew and weed are protection its time to step in. I smoke plenty onf ganja and have had my close calls with getting girls preggers same with the amount of mountain dew i drink.

It is extremely sad to learn that someone would believe myths like those, after 12 years of attending education system.
They soon will be our managers, CEO's, Doctors, etc.
