SAN JOSE, Calif. - Facebook has won a $873 million judgment against a Canadian man who bombarded users with millions of unsolicited messages about drugs and sex.
U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel signed the default judgment Friday, resolving a lawsuit that Facebook filed in August against Adam Guerbuez of Montreal and his business, Atlantis Blue Capital.
Facebook alleged that Guerbuez had fooled users into revealing their passwords so he could send out more than 4 million messages that included promotions for marijuana. Guerbuez could not be located for comment.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company predicted the judgment will be difficult to collect, but is hoping that its size discourages future abuses at its site.

aquaitus 11-26-2008, 10:46 AM I dont know about that, I mean I live half a country away from my family and the friends I grew up with, and I find its a great way to stay in touch, I can see photo's instantly, even videos. I mean of course there are going to be people that abuse a site like that, but that could be said about any number of diffrent things. I've used it to catch up with people that I hadn't seen in years, people that without facebook, I probly would never have talked to again, but now have a really good friendship with.
jammer 250 11-26-2008, 11:15 AM I thought they changed the name to divorcebook.

aquqitus......you can do the same things and much more with SKYPE.....I find facebook and the rest of them intrusive.....I am always getting invitations to join....so and so sent you a nudge or a card or a hi5....in my opinion, they create a lot of broken marriages by giving a place where married men and women can FIND EACH OTHER ....this is the fault of moral degradation of the times and the ease of which people communicate today.
This of course is just my opinion.......

aquaitus 11-26-2008, 09:18 PM I don't doubt thats very true for some Tony, but that doesnt mean it has to be true for everyone. I mean I, and alot of people I know on facebook, keep there lists to a minimum, to prevent as you say, unwanted invites, nudges, and the like, and if you take the time you can block those things if you don't want them. I wont try and say that people dont or wont use it for bad reasons, or abuse it. All I'm saying is that for the people that do use it as a social network tool, it is very easy to use, and streamlined. I've never used skype, but I thought it was like a internet phone service? can you at anytime check out photos or videos of people, leave messages, and have fun with diffrent apps if you so choose to do so? and I mean like i said, im not trying to discount what you said, or anyone said, just trying to say, while that what you all say is true for some, maybe alot, that doesnt mean it should ruin something that is actually useful, for me and alot of others.
