Kingston Intros New SSDNow Drives
Kingston has announced the first two SSDNow line of Solid State Drives, namely, SSDNow M series for the notebook segment and the SSDNow E series for the enterprise segment. These SSDs are co-branded with Intel and based on Intel's SSD designs. The E series targeted at the enterprise segment is available in 32GB capacity, while the M series for the notebook segment is available in 80GB capacity.
Kingston claims increased performance through improved Input and Output Operations Per Second (IOPS). Higher IOPS for the E series saves energy when used in place of standard HDDs in an enterprise environment, while higher IOPS in the M series will make OS and applications load faster.
The SSDNow E series SSDs promise a read throughput speed of 250MB/sec and write speed of 170 MB/sec, while the M series offers read throughput speed of 250MB/sec and write speed of 70MB/sec (yeah, it is 70MB/sec and not a typo!).
Using the SATA (1.5GB/sec and 3GB/sec) interface, these new SSDNow SSDs are equipped with SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) for monitoring the internal wear and tear of the SSDs. Kingston claims that both SSDs, the new E and M series, can handle shocks and withstand extreme environments.
Both SSDNow E and M series come with a three-year warranty and free tech support from Kingston. Kingston hasn't announced the pricing and availability details of the products for India.
