Chrysler LLC says it will temporarily close four assembly plants next week, including one in Brampton, Ont., because of weak U.S. sales.

The company says it will idle factories in Brampton; Sterling Heights, Mich.; Belvidere, Ill.; and Detroit from Feb. 9-13.

Spokesman Max Gates says it's because of economic conditions. Additional closures are possible because the company reviews its production schedules every week.

Chrysler has 9,800 employees in Canada and operates vehicle assembly plants in Brampton and Windsor, Ont., and a casting plant in Toronto.

The Brampton factory, one of the Chrysler factories that experienced a longer-than-usual shutdown over the year-end holiday period, makes the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger.

Sterling Heights Assembly builds the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring while Belvidere makes the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass and Patriot. The Detroit factory on Connor Avenue builds the Dodge Viper.

Chrysler sales were down 55 per cent last month and 30 per cent in 2008.

The car sales is running out of fuel. Even TOYOTA is going to face deficit first time for the year 2008 in last 58 years.

Its bad all around.
My plant make parts for Belvidere.
They have been slowing that plant down since last summer.
They have also been trying to take more of their business to China.
We have had to rebid several times on parts to try and keep the contract.
We also make parts for Ford and Gm.
So I bet you know where im sitting right at the moment.
Been out since last Nov and have been looking for new job since July.
Not much out there.
Am planning on going back to school.
Hope this will all start to turn around soon.
Have a great one everyone.

The jobs are going to other countries, but the over all sales is going down.
