Hell's Angels crackdown in Canada

About 150 people have been arrested in a major police crackdown on the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang in Canada.

Some 1,200 police officers were involved in the operation. Suspects were also detained in France and the Dominican Republic.

The suspects were picked up as a result of Operation Shark, the culmination of three years' police work.

The arrests relate to alleged murders and drug crimes that occurred between 1992 and 2009.

In that period, the Hell's Angels "biker war" with another Canadian gang, the Rock Machine, peaked.

Of the 156 people the police say have been arrested, 111 are apparently active - so-called "full patch" members of the Hell's Angels.

'Nowhere to hide'

For decades, Canadian police have contended that members of the biker gang have been involved in alleged criminal and drug activities, organised crime and widespread violence, says the BBC's Lee Carter in Toronto.

No matter where they hide, criminals can be arrested

Most of the arrests were made in the Montreal area of Quebec.

But police said the fact that some were also carried out in France and the Dominican Republic showed they were sending a strong message to criminal organisations.

"We can go beyond the borders of our country to stop the perpetrators of criminal activity in Canada," said Inspector Richard Emery from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

"No matter where they hide, criminals can be arrested."

Police say the goal is to put an end to the criminal activities of the Hell's Angels.

But similar assurances were made after a series of similar raids in Quebec in 2001, our correspondent says.

The Hell's Angels will always be here , they might get busted from time to time , but the fact is that a worldwide crew like them will always be here. :rifle::evil:

The hells angels are pretty innocent when it comes to biker gangs. If you want to know about some really ruthless law-breakers, familiarize yourself with the gypsy jokers.

Didn't mean to offend you Keith.
I agree there are some bad cops but I would like to believe they are the exception and not the rule.
Obviously the corrupt ones should be prosecuted to the fullest extent not only because they are corrupt but also because they give all police officers a bad name and cause people to tar them all with the same brush.

I dont think all Hell's Angels are selling speed and other drugs to our kids and killing people either. I have met a few of the Satan's Choice members in this area over the years and they were pretty decent guys just as some of the Hell's Angels are too. But obviously the majority of the people arrested have done something to warrant being charged.
Again, no offense intended.

Glad to hear we're good.
From what I have seen on the news lately, it sounds like the Old West out your way. It's not any better here but when I visited BC it was really laid back and pretty mellow everywhere I went. Now it seems like things are getting out of hand. Or maybe it's just the media's slant we are being fed. If it bleeds, it leads.
What is the situation you are seeing? I'd like to get out that way again but I dont want to spoil what I remember from before, if you know what I mean.
Sorry if I'm jacking this thread.
