D*sh Goes After D*recTV With Ad Campaign
D*sh Claims Rival Passes NFL Sunday Ticket Costs To All D*recTV Subs

20831

D*sh Network, having suffered net subscriber losses in the two most recent quarters, is directly attacking rival satellite operator D*recTV on the price of its programming packages in a national print ad campaign -- which alleges that D*recTV spreads the costs from its exclusive NFL programming deal to all subscribers.

The D*sh ad includes more than 800 words of copy, under the headline "Why We Cost Less," while emphasizing its low-cost programming packages and asserting that "no one offers more HD than D*sh Network."

In addition, the ad alleges, "Sunday Ticket costs D*recTV one billion dollars a year and ends up being subsidized by other D*recTV customers whether they get the Sunday Ticket or not. Maybe that's why in the last three months of 2008, the average D*recTV customer paid about 15% a month more for TV than the average D*sh Network customer."

In a statement, D*irecTV spokesman Darris Gringeri said, "Desperate times call for desperate measures. Of course it's inaccurate, and why should anyone be surprised? This is just another in a long series of ridiculous claims from D*sh."

In March, D*recTV announced a $4 billion, four-year extension with the National Football League to offer the Sunday Ticket out-of-market programming package.

D*sh's ad claims that "we refuse to carry the NFL Sunday Ticket," without noting that the company didn't have a chance to refuse it.

The D*sh ad is running in more than 90 newspapers nationwide, including the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Constitution, Chicago Sun Times, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Indianapolis Star, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Orlando Sentinel, Minneapolis Star Tribune,San Antonio Express News, San Francisco Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, and Denver Post.

D*sh spokeswoman Francie Bauer said the ads will run at least through June and maybe longer.

The D*sh ad includes a link to a Web site comparison between the satellite TV services, d*shbeatsd*rectv.c*m, which purports to show annual savings of between $84.12 and $192.00 with D*sh depending on the level of service.

They still get paid to run the ad, so why not?
As far as which one to choose, in my opinion it's like being given a choice about which turd you like best!
I think they both need a lot of improvement and they both charge way too much for what the customer get's back. jmo:thmbdn:

I've subscribed to DN once and personally your right they are a big rip off. I mean when me and my wife had signed up we got I think it was three movie channels for free upto five months then we had to start paying for it. So I called DN and tried to have them remove the movie channels and they had told me that my bill would raise $ 20.00 more if I had the three channels removed. I was like what ? it totally baffled me. They then told me it wouldn't be considered a package if I had the three movie channels removed, I then explained I had only subscribed to the basic and the gentlemen had told me it's a package I was like hmm well. Anyhow Let this be a lesson to those who think of subscribing. I've been into fta for quite sometime....since the card days an I'll tell everyone here I'd rather watch my dvds over and over again once DN goes all black for us then to ever subscribe to them ever again. By the way good read Aza thanks for the info.

I agree with the other poster(s)
I also subscribed to DISH. Once I had a problem with the physical dish. Called up the rep. and was told it was a known issue. They will pay for the repair parts, but I needed to pay for labor? hahaha! I only had the service less than 4 months.
They also told me about a maint plan in which I could pay 7 bucks a month (to cover any problems with the dish equipment) I said no and that if they did not fix it I was going with Comcast. After a few please holds and more frustrating conversations, they fixed it.

Dish/DirectTV/Comcast and all the other "services" need to provide better TV for a lower cost, with non of these BS addin fees. They would get more subscribers.

Just my 2 cents

I had a bad experience with D*sh also... I subscribed to thier HD service a couple of years ago. After seeing the poor quality, I decided to downgrade my service to non-HD. Some guy with an Indian accent told me there was no path to downgrade and he couldn't help me. He told me that he could remove my HD channels but I'd still have to pay for them and I would have to pay $200 for a new receiver at the very least. It took about 2 hours but I finally got someone on the phone who could help me. I remember thinking at the time, that they must be desperate to keep customers, even at the expense of alienating them.

During the time I had my subscription, I made several calls to them for problems. Each time the customer service was extremely terrible - long wait times, non-English speaking reps, bad solutions, etc.

Never again...:thmbdn::thmbdn::thmbdn:

It is a big rip off but people need their TV. I for one have the very basic cable sub you can get and I am fine with that. I don't need all the channels it's just too much TV. If a N3 hack comes along then so be it.

I once subbed with DTV for the baseball package. We tried to get our payment date changed and they told us that it wasn't possible. Shortly after my contract was up I called to cancel and told them about the payment date issue. They then told me that they would be willing to change that for me. Sure now that I was canceling they would do that but not in my time of need. Only one word describes this action and that is GREED. Direct TV if full of that.

Hi Tony,
Do like me and take the down-time to drink a lot of beer. I get so wasted that typing is impossible and lay down for long periods. lol
Seriously though, how do you really feel about those f@@@ing pimps?
I like to pay for a package full of s**t I would never be interested in watching so that I get 2 or 3 channels I actually do watch.
Bend over and smile while we make those clowns rich.:thmbup:
It's time for a revolution!!!

You guys should see what people in the great whit north have to face. Very limited providers (B3V & S***Choice for sat.) Cable cost is horrendous considering what you get.

That is I went FTA.

I have my rabbit ears for OTA signal and a couple of hundred DVDs. For the time being if I want to see a movie bad enough I'll go and rent it ... before I buy.

Waiting patiently for stand alone N3 fix. Testing Viewsat Ultra Lite north, way, way north.

Thanks AZA. see what you started. lol

Yep. I was one of the original dn subscribers. Paid up front for the whole year. What made me drop them like a rock was, I was disappointed that when I ask for what a new sub would get when they joined (3 months of 2 premium channels free) they only offered me a free upgrade. This went on for 4 years. When I told them to turn it off, thats when they wanted to talk.
Swore I would get even one day. Now I feel like I did.

yea, you are totally right about cable tv cost versus money you pay for it. but you are forgetting another issue as well with ALL northern providers....they split market into areas/regions and then each one exclusively gets to provide service only to that area/region, which equals to pure monopoly.

people swallow this sh!t, and keep on paying for all sorts of garbage that is being fed to them via tv, as they have no other choice. talk about competition. huh?!
